Savoring a toasted ham and Swiss sandwich is always going to be an enjoyable experience because it features such a classic pairing of flavors. Melted Swiss cheese and tender ham are complemented by the tangy edge of dijon mustard, but what if there was more?

Not only do you get the classic ham and Swiss, but you get all that flavorful pizzazz wrapped up in a flaky, sweet, buttery crust and topped with a delicious glaze!

How to Make Honey Butter Crescent Rolls with Ham and Swiss  

This recipe is effortless and surprisingly cost-effective, which is part of the reason we are loving it so much (aside from the obvious deliciousness of it all)! Take a few moments to gather your ingredients and you’ll be biting into buttery, flaky goodness in no time!

To make this recipe, you will need some honey butter crescent rolls. While you can opt for any brand or flavor of crescent rolls, our trial and error has led us to suggest Pillsbury Honey Butter Crescent Rolls. Aside from that, you will need some sliced deli honey ham, Swiss cheese, butter, onion powder, poppy seeds, dijon mustard, mayonnaise, and Worcestershire sauce.

If you’re looking to maximize the remarkable flavors of this recipe, we suggest using aged Swiss blocks and quality cuts of ham that can be found at most local specialty delis, and also substituting crescent dough for croissant dough, which will help you achieve some incredible results.

The first thing you will do while making this recipe is prepare the dough. The crescent dough in these rolls is pre-perforated, which is not useful in this situation, so that will need to be amended! Take half of the dough and roll it out on a lined baking pan so it creates a large sheet of dough. Using the tips of your fingers, pinch the perforated seams in the dough back together so that it becomes a solid sheet of crescent dough. Do the same with the other half of the dough and set it aside.

This is the part where your creative side really gets to show! To some people, there is a science to layering sandwich ingredients. Feel free to mix and match the order of meats and cheeses to your heart’s content. Or, if you’re feeling confident that it will taste amazing no matter what (it will), throw caution to the wind and stack your meats and cheeses randomly! Either way, your dough should be topped with the layered ingredients of your sandwich. We used ham and Swiss and created a savory glaze to go with it. Once the ingredients are layered evenly over the dough, top it with the second layer of dough. Then, use your fingers to gently seal all four sides of the dough sheets.

In a bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients. These are going to create a dijon poppy seed glaze that ties the entire recipe together! Mix the melted butter, onion powder, poppy seeds, Worcestershire, mayonnaise, and dijon mustard until you get a smooth and creamy sauce. Using a brush or spoon, glaze the dough in an even layer. Make sure to cover as much of the top as you can so that every bite is filled with the sweet and savory blend of the crescent dough and the glaze.

Place the entire thing on the middle rack of the oven and bake at 350°F for about twelve minutes. Then, move it to the top rack and bake for an additional two or three minutes. This will allow the top layer of crust to reach an appetizing golden-brown that is the cherry on top of this recipe, figuratively speaking, anyway.

Table & Thyme’s Honey Butter Crescent Rolls with Baked Ham & Swiss

Buttery, flaky, and deliciously toasted, this recipe features the perfect blend of flavors to savor as an afternoon snack or serve to guests at an upcoming event! 


The total quantity of the ingredients needed for this recipe depends on your own preference and how stuffed you would like your rolls to be. 

Ingredients

  • Honey butter crescent rolls
  • Honey ham slices
  • Swiss cheese slices
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 ½ teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons poppy seeds
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 3 Tablespoons mayonnaise
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Unroll crescent rolls, and divide the sheet in half. Lay one half on a lined baking sheet and pinch the seams together to create a sheet of dough. Repeat to the other half of the dough and set aside.
  • Layer the ham slices and Swiss cheese across the sheet of dough and then top with the other half of the crescent rolls. Using your fingertips, pinch the edges together all the way around to seal all of the sides.
  • In a small bowl, mix melted butter, onion powder, poppyseeds, mayonnaise, dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth. Brush the top of the crescent rolls with the butter mixture.
  • Bake for 12 min on the middle rack, then 3 minutes more on the top rack, or until golden brown.
  • Slice and enjoy!
