Gourmet Coffee Recipes at Home

A regular cup of coffee is always a great choice, but for anyone looking to try something new, we’ve got you covered. Nowadays, it’s so easy to prepare delicious coffee styles in the comfort of your own home without needing to have a barista under the same roof. There’s only a few things you’ll need and you’ll be a coffee master in no time!

Regardless of if the coffee is hot, iced, blended, or whatever else, you’re going to need a reliable coffee grinder. Preferably, one that can grind the beans into a variety of grain sizes. Depending on how you're preparing your coffee, the size of the grain can affect the quality of the drink as well as the caffeine content, so it’s best to get a grinder that can handle that responsibility. This coffee grinder is a great choice and perfect for both of the recipes we’re sharing today!

Frothy Latte or Cappuccino

Who doesn’t love a creamy latte or foamy cappuccino in the morning? You won’t be needing to visit Starbucks much after we show you how to make this delectable drink at home! All you’ll need is your favorite milk (or milk alternative), coffee, a Milk frother, and any flavors you may want to add!

A latte is a coffee drink that’s characterized by it’s steamed milk. It’s very similar to a cappuccino, but has less foam and blends the flavors of the milk and coffee much easier. It is made the same way as a cappuccino with the only difference being the amount of foam, which means you’re learning two drinks in one!

The key to a perfect cappuccino is the delicious foam. Everyone has a preference, it can be extra dry or extra creamy, but regardless, the foam is what makes a cappuccino a cappuccino. Some milks work better for frothing, but having a reliable Milk frother is the best bet to make that happen.

To start off, brew your coffee as you would normally. Traditionally, lattes and cappuccinos are made with espresso rather than coffee (yes, there is actually a difference) but most people don’t have an espresso machine at home. For all intents and purposes, coffee is perfect for making lattes and cappuccinos at home! Once you’ve prepared your coffee the way you like, set it aside and prepare the foam.

In a clean and microwave-safe cup (preferably an old jar), pour in some milk. You don’t need too much, but at least a third of the jar depending on its size. Next, cap the jar and give it a good shake. For an even easier and more full-proof method, use your Milk frother! You’ll start to see it foaming already, great, that’s what you want! After the milk looks like it's double the amount you poured in originally, place the open jar in a microwave and cook for 3-60 seconds. This allows the milk to become heated and the foam to set. The less time you cook the milk, the better for a latte. Cooking it a little longer (roughly 60 seconds) is better for a foam that’s more dry, which is best for cappuccinos.

While your milk is cooking, flavor your coffee however you like. A syrup is best, or maybe a spoonful of sugar, it’s totally up to you!

Once your foam has reached your perfect level of consistency, take it out and pour into your coffee! Use a spoon to keep the foam in the jar until your coffee is about ¾ full, then scoop the foam and top off your coffee with the foam! You can play around with how much foam and milk you like on your coffee, but no matter what, it’ll still be delicious! For a more detailed guide on this process, visit this article by The Kitchn.

Smooth Cold Brew

If you’re more of a fan of cold coffee, a hearty cold brew may be more your style. This coffee takes a long time to prepare, but the end result is so worth it. It works best when it’s made with lighter roasted coffee beans like our Mesa House Blend and ground to be more coarse (bigger grains), which means it’ll pack more of a caffeinated punch than other types of coffee so be aware! In order to make cold brew, you’ll need a french press, but the rest of the preparation is a breeze!

To make cold brew, grind about 1-1 ½ cups of coffee coarsely and get about 3-3 ½ cups of cold, filtered water ready to go. All you’ll do from here is pour the grounds into the french press and then fill it with the cold water. Let it sit on a counter or in the fridge for about 16 hours (or longer for a bolder flavor) and then enjoy!

Cold brew is much more smooth than regular coffee because it is much less acidic, so it may be better to drink as is rather than adding other flavors. But if you’d like to anyway, it’s best served on ice with a variety of syrups, creamers, and even cold foam!
