How to Make Irish Coffee

Irish Coffee is a relatively simple drink to make with only a handful of ingredients. The trick to making an outstanding mixed drink is to reach for high-quality ingredients, which is why we have a few specific ingredients to recommend to make this recipe a fantastic one.

Coffee with a Kick: How to Make Authentic Irish Coffee at Home ingredients: brown sugar, coffee, whipping cream, and irish whiskey

Firstly, you’ll need some brown sugar and heavy whipping cream on hand, as well as fresh coffee and a bottle of Irish whiskey. Of course, everyone has their own individual preferences when it comes to brews of coffee and barrels of whiskey, but we’ve got our own suggestions for this recipe!

Table & Thyme’s very own Mesa House Blend coffee beans are a great choice of beans for making Irish Coffee. Our Mesa House Blend is sourced from Brazil and Colombia and roasted lightly to offer plenty of energy in a single cup! While sipping a cup of our Mesa House Blend coffee, you’ll enjoy a balanced and sweet coffee flavor with notes of almond and cocoa, perfect for pairing with Irish whiskey!

Aside from having some quality coffee beans, this recipe can also be made better with a quality bottle of Irish whiskey. We’ve found that pairing our Mesa House Blend coffee with Jameson’s Triple Distilled Irish Whiskey is the perfect recipe for smooth, rich, and creamy Irish Coffee.

The first step to making a delicious cup of Irish Coffee is to measure two teaspoons of brown sugar and place it in the bottom of your favorite coffee mug.

Next, use your preferred brewing method to brew a nice, hot cup of coffee. There are a few methods to choose from that you can read about in our Energize Your Mornings with Gourmet Coffee at Home blog! However you decide to brew, pour your fresh and hot coffee into the mug over the top of the brown sugar. This will melt the sugar instantly and make your coffee sweet and smooth! But, just to be sure, go ahead and give your coffee a good stir to ensure the sugar has dissolved fully.

The next step is to pour in the Irish whiskey! We recommend 1.5 ounces for a balanced kick, but feel free to experiment with more or less until you find your preferred mixed drink!

In a separate glass, pour the heavy whipping cream and whip using a whisk, fork, or milk frother until it reaches a thick and creamy consistency.

Pour the whipped cream over the top of your hot Irish Coffee and enjoy the smooth blend of flavors that make up this delicious drink! To get a thick layer of cream that not only looks inviting but also maintains the layers of the drink, pour the cream over the backside of a spoon over the cup of coffee to prevent the cream from seeping into the center of the cup!

When it comes to sipping on layered drinks like Irish Coffee, you will get the best experience by drinking as is rather than stirring and mixing the cream into the coffee!
